10 Must-Do Experiences in St. Lucia: Beyond Sun, Sand, and Sea

When you think of the Caribbean, what comes to mind? Sun, sand, and sea? 1. Hiking Gros Piton

Gros Piton is one of the most iconic landmarks in St. Lucia, and a hike to the top is an unforgettable experience. The trail is challenging but rewarding, and the views from the summit are simply stunning.

2. Sulfur Springs Mud Bath

For something truly unique, head to Soufriere and soak in the therapeutic sulfur springs. Then, cover yourself in the mud for a genuinely detoxifying and rejuvenating experience!

3. Drive-in Volcano

St. Lucia is the only place that can claim to have a drive-in volcano. The Soufriere volcano is inactive but still an impressive sight, and you can even drive right into the crater!

4. Gros Islet Street Party

Every Friday night, the town of Gros Islet comes alive with live music, unapologetic dancing, and seriously good vibes. This is a great way to experience St. Lucian culture and meet new people. And the food!!! Prepare yourself for some of the best Caribbean cuisine you’ve ever tasted.

5. Diving, Snorkeling and Snuba

The clear turquoise waters around St. Lucia are teeming with marine life, making it perfect for snorkelers and divers alike. Plenty of tour operators offer excursions to the best spots, so you can just sit back and enjoy the underwater world.

6. Aerial Tram Tour

St. Lucia is known for its lush rainforest, and an aerial tram tour is the best way to see it. Glide through the treetops and take in the fantastic scenes of the jungle below.

7. Whale Watching

Roughly between October to February, Sperm whales, Humpback whales, and Pilot whales come to the Caribbean Sea to mate. So, if you’re lucky enough to be on the island during this time, be sure to go on a whale-watching tour!

8. Carnival

Carnival, usually celebrated in July, is a huge deal in St. Lucia. The streets are filled with music and people in colorful costumes, and all kinds of activities are going on. The Carnival parade is one of the many highlights of the celebration. People march through the streets during the parade, dancing and singing. The costumes are incredible, and the experience is out of this world!

9. Kabawé Krawl

The Kabawé Krawl is a pub crawl through the town of Soufriere that lets you sample some of the best rum on the island. This is a great way to learn about St. Lucian culture, history, and hospitality while getting happily boozy!

10. St. Lucian Cuisine

St. Lucian cuisine is a melting pot of Afro-Caribbean, Indian, French, and British influences. And it is absolutely delicious. Curries, Rotis, and figs and saltfish are some of the most famous dishes on the island, and you can find them at pretty much any restaurant. But for a truly authentic experience, try street food like Bouyon or Pepperpot.  You won’t be disappointed!
